While sifting through the WordPress reader I came across this wonderful post. I just had to re-blog it. If nothing else it will make you smile. Thank you Margaret Jean Langstaff for posting.

Margaret Langstaff

Writers, if you are struggling, you are not alone. It’s the typical state of mind for a serious writer! I stumbled on this and thought it worth sharing here. No endorsements intended or implied. Just food for thought and a few reasons to smile.

21 HARSH TRUTHS ABOUT WRITING

1. The first draft of everything is shit. -Ernest Hemingway

2. Never use jargon words like reconceptualize, demassification, attitudinally, judgmentally. They are hallmarks of a pretentious ass. -David Ogilvy

3. If you have any young friends who aspire to become writers, the second greatest favor you can do them is to present them with copies of The Elements of Style. The first greatest, of course, is to shoot them now, while they’re happy. – Dorothy Parker

Why is It So Hard to Get Readers to Write Reviews?

Do you write reviews?..

Before I published my first and only book I must have read every article and every excerpt that came out about indie writing and publishing.

But the one thing they don’t tell you is how to get the readers to write a simple honest review.

I have to say that beside doing promotional stuff, getting readers to post a review has been the hardest part of writing.
But then I didn’t write many reviews before I became a published author either.
I had no idea writers count on reviews to sell their books.
But now that I do know I make sure I write a review as soon as I’m finished with the book.
It’s easy, just hit the star you think represents how much you liked the book, which for me is always at least a three.

When a man reaches out to those less fortunate he becomes a rich man..

People become Homeless because of Many reasons. In India, such People are Looked Down Upon, or More Often Ignored, etc. Whereas it seems that in the West they are even subjected to Violence. That much about the Situation.

Many People at Many times have set forth to help the Helpless. Through the blogs, I have come to know of DENNIS CARDIFF, who is a Writer and an Author, and gives of his time, energy and money to take care of these Have-nots. I have also come to know of his Book: GOTTA FIND A HOME.

Support your authors – no matter where they are from! Traditional, indie & self-published!

Authors, Books, edits, Indies, mistakes, Publishers, Ugh!

Authors that get published in the traditional way have edit problems too. And they have many editors that go over their books. We’ve all seen this and yet we read those books anyway. So why all the fuss when a indie makes mistakes. I’m beginning to think it’s the big publishers that are doing everything they can to keep readers away from the independent author..Why can’t we just support every author who writes and publishes a book..If it was so easy everyone would do it..

I decided to take a look into why people feel that indie and self-published authors are a bad investment.
It doesn’t matter where your books are from all can be disliked, have mistakes in them and still not be the book you was hoping it to be.
But this I can tell you, self-published authors good or bad do get freedom to write how they wish to, you will find books you feel have problems with editing, misspelling, bad punctuation, but I have found these sorts of mistakes in those traditionally published as well.
All editing traditional and otherwise relies upon human eye, which can miss problems, but the more editing the book has the less chance the book has for having these mistakes.
Traditional publishers have many editors, and still I find some brilliant boo boo’s.
So what do I advise?
I have lists of favourite SP/Indie/Traditional published authors…

Coleman weeks is one of the nicest men I have ever had the privileged to know. Coleman has given his time and heart to so many indie authors and he has never once asked for a thing in return.

So this is the least I can do. I hope you like his video interview and will share on twitter and your social networks too. Coleman’s books are on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/End-Humanity-Coleman-Weeks-ebook/dp/B00A32V1OO/ref=. Check out his author page also on Amazon.

There is also a blog called Marsocial, http://marsocialauthorbusinessenhancementblog.wordpress.com/where you can blog without the hassle of setting one up.

This is what Coleman does. He opens his heart and blogs up to any author or artist and helps them show their own work.

Thanks for watching and sharing, Annie

A Tale of Two Places

If I could split my time evenly between two places and two places only I would have to say I would be in Siesta Key, Florida on the beach most days. And the other would be wrapped up in my husbands arms.

Now I know most might think that my husbands arms isn’t a place. But to me it’s a safe place to be. A warm place of solace where I can find peace and love.

Siesta Key is my favorite beach. And being at the beach soothes my soul. With the powdered sand to walk on that is always the right temperature. And the sounds of the waves lapping against the shore. The breeze that keeps me cool in the hot Florida sun. The beach brings out my sexy side. It’s always where I want to be.

Yes when I close my eyes I am wrapped up in my hubbies arms on Siesta Key Beach..I could be very happy in both these places at any given time.

I have no doubt that one day I will be there full time. Which place you ask? If you have to ask you just wouldn’t understand..

THE INDIE AUTHOR MANIFESTO

We indie authors believe all writers are created equal, that all writers are endowed with natural creative potential, and that writers have an unalienable right to exercise, explore and realize their potential through the freedom of publication.

I hold these truths to be self-evident:

  1. I am an indie author
  2. I have experienced the pleasure and satisfaction that comes from self-publishing
  3. I have a right to publish
  4. My creative control is important to me.  I decide when, where and how my writing graduates to become a published book.
  5. Indie does not mean “alone.”  I choose my partners.
  6. I shall not bow beholden or subservient to any publisher. In my business relationships, I seek partnership, fairness, equity and mutually aligned interests.
  7. We indie author comprise diverse writers unified by a common purpose to advance, empower and celebrate writers everywhere.
  8. I am a professional.  I take pride in my work, and I strive to improve my craft to better serve my readers, myself, my fellow indie authors and the culture of books
  9. My writing is valuable and important.  This value and importance cannot be measured by commercial sales alone.
  10. I celebrate the success of my fellow indie authors, for their success is mine, and mine theirs. Together we are pioneering a better future for books marked by greater quality, creativity, diversity, choice, availability, affordability and accessibility.

Here is a blog post on WordPress’s authors Naples market report. Why is it called Naples market report for authors?  I have no idea.

All I know is that there are a lot of amazing indie authors there. They each have their books and bio’s posted on this WordPress page with the crazy name.

My name may be there but I didn’t name it. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. 🙂
