It would be great if people looked up invisible illness before they made a comment about it. Chronic pain, Fibromyalgia, Lupus, arthritis, Arachnoiditis. But they won’t. There are over a hundred million people living with Chronic pain in the U.S. alone. Just think before you tell someone that some exercise is all they need. We all wish that was the answer.

yadadarcyyada

This isn’t a whiny post (at least I’ll try, no promises) or it can be fixed blog or whatever. Just a few thoughts about why people think Fibromyalgia isn’t a real syndrome, that it’s just lazy, unmotivated people and why I don’t have all the answers.

fibromyalgia8

Let’s begin at the end; I don’t have all the answers because I don’t sleep enough.  Also, I’m not a million years old.  In addition, I’m certainly not a super genius.  Oh, did I mention I don’t sleep enough?

People prefer to think people with disorders such as Fibromyalgia are lazy because they don’t want to accept that you could wake up one morning and have something like that or ChronicFatigue Syndrome or Lyme Disease and so on.

Instead of doing the whole there-but-for-the-grace-of-God-go-I thing, many people just decide that people with these illnesses could do better if they just got…

Robin Williams: His Last Laugh

It hurts when someone leaves us in this way. But you can do something by helping others. Lend an ear, feed the hungry, give your old cell phones to the women’s abuse center. Keep laughing life really is great! Show someone who’s dealing with depression just how good life can be.

yadadarcyyada

1arobin13Suicide isn’t a laughing matter. Neither is depression.

Have we lost the ability to see that line between genuinely mourning the loss of someone and using it to gain attention for ourselves?

Where to begin? The media are too obvious, they’re a well-oiled exploitation machine.

Social media is too often the Land of Shallow, where pictures, platitudes, Slacktivism, jokes, and memes are welcome, but anything of substance is frequently ignored or seen as annoying.

Yet it’s the memorials that confuse me the most.
What does wasting money on flowers, balloons, teddy bears and candles do?
Does it bring those lost back?
Does it stop the next accident, murder, or suicide?
No. It just mildews.
What a terrible waste.

Maybe it’s a form of pain behaviour. People need to show how much they care, show that they’re in pain.

1arobin6

Take the money you would spend on items for a memorial and…

When you’re feeling down about what has been thrown your way look what others are going through. Life sucks sometimes. But sometimes it’s a good thing, Ask LaRae Parry..

worthit

My lungs suck. No. Wait a minute. They don’t suck. That’s the problem–they don’t suck at all. They just sit there—in my chest cavity—taking up space. It’s cruddy. No kidding.

Complaining about it doesn’t make my rotten lungs any better, so I don’t do it . . . all the time. Not everyday, anyway.

Because of my nonfunctioning lungs, I have to wear supplemental oxygen all the time. That sucks. Really. I have a machine that sucks pure oxygen out of the air and pumps it into my lungs. It’s great to suck.

There are some days, however, that I wonder if it’s worth the hassle to even get out of bed. I’m serious. Getting out of bed means I have to breathe more. Then, when that happens, I have to get clean. Then I see pictures of my children, grandchildren, and get on my computer and see my friends…

She hold the dream in her hands, What a beautiful poem by Jane Dougherty

Jane Dougherty Writes

Pierre-Auguste_Renoir_-_La_Cueillette_des_fleurs

I dream of places deep and green

Where we could live our idyll

Where the air is full of birdsong

And trees grow tall in the silence

Of the bright sky’s rim.

I picture where we’ll sit, just you and I

In a stone flagged kitchen

Or a cosy den of polished boards

With a woodstove to heat our winter days

And windows open to the summer breeze.

You smile and tell me we already have

The only things that we will ever need.

The world outside our room can turn,

Suns follow moons and cats and city lights,

As long as you have your desk next to mine

And all you have to do is raise your head

And I am there.

I think that all I want is space to write my words

And watch the world outside flow gently by

In a graceful dance of red leaves…

This is the Face of 6th Street

Sometimes taking a picture is not just taking a picture..

Numina

When I told her that she was beautiful she smiled like the Cheshire cat. She knew that I meant it too. I don’t think she’d heard that in awhile. You want to take my picture? She said. My picture? I told her that it would make my day. There was so much going on around her that wasn’t beautiful. The heroin touts were busy running back and forth from Natoma out to the cars idling on 6th Street, looking at me with Hyena smiles. I could feel a certain malice in the air, like a current in a wire. I said, All right, are you ready? I knew I didn’t have much time. A white man with a camera on 6th Street. She put her hands on her hips and looked up into my eyes. She couldn’t have been much over five feet tall. She had a story for sure…

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is Bringing Attention to This Horrible Disease.

itsginamarie

You’re wrong.

My dad died two years ago from complications related to ALS, and I’m here to tell you that the Ice Bucket challenge is not “stupid.” It is not “worthless” or “annoying” or “retarded.” You are just ignorant.

(A reminder that ignorance is not the same as stupidity, and that ignorance can be cured. Here is your cure.)

Many people complain that dumping a bucket of ice over your head won’t solve anything. It’s simply a fad, it’s clogging up news feeds, it’s not doing anything for the actual cause. The term “slacktivism” has been thrown around, implying that these people are akin to those who “Like” causes on Facebook from the comfort of their own home without so much as getting off the couch. I understand the accusation. But ultimately, it is false.

Here’s why.

1. Watching people dump ice over their heads and seeing their resultant expressions…

MARSocial Special Interview: Author #9 LaRae Parry

Author LaRae Parry is the Crazy Lady. Her life story will lift you up. LaRae fought back when life played a cruel joke on her. I just Love this woman.

International Book Promotion

I was born with a loose screw. I’m not kidding, I was. It has gotten me into trouble and out of trouble, so I can’t complain.

I was also born with an umbilical urge to write – or – tell stories – made up ones. That got me into a lot of trouble, and out of trouble, so, I can’t complain. 🙂

In 1991, I became a VERY famous artist. I drew, painted, and wrote painting instructions for a publisher. I had 13 painting books published – which is weird, because I never considered myself an artist. I was a faux artist, I guess.

Then in 2005, a simple medical procedure went terribly wrong that landed me in the ICU on life-support because of respiratory and multiple organ failure. Even though I beat the odds and survived, docs said my brain crashed (like how a computer crashes) and needed to…
